The Opportunity
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Rio Tinto Track Protection Officer (TPO) to join our team for long term works on a full-time basis. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of rail operations by implementing and monitoring track protection measures. You will be working full time alongside a great team of dedicated and hard-working Rail and Civil maintenance teams on the Rio Tinto rail network.
Your Strong problem-solving and communication skills, combined with the ability to work independently and in teams, are key to ensuring safety and efficiency. This position requires flexibility and a proactive attitude, as rosters will include 8:6.
Key Responsibilities
• Ensure the safety of personnel working on or near rail tracks by implementing effective track protection measures.
• Conduct thorough site assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure all safety protocols are in place.
• Communicate effectively with train controllers, rail workers, and other stakeholders to coordinate track protection activities, while monitoring and enforcing compliance with rail safety regulations and company policies.
• Participate in safety audits, inspections, and reviews to continuously improve rail safety practices, while maintaining detailed records of track protection activities, incidents, and any safety breaches.
• Provide on-site supervision and guidance to work crews, ensuring all safety procedures are followed.
• Respond promptly to any safety incidents or emergencies, taking appropriate action to mitigate risks.
To be successful for this role, you must have:
• Current Track Protection Officer (TPO) qualification (previously M4/M5 or ROPO (M4))
• Category 1 Rail Medical
• Valid White Card
• Current & active Australian C-Class driver’s licence
• Strong understanding of health & safety obligations under legislation and client policies
• Excellent communication, organisational, ability to assess situations quickly, identify issues, and implement effective solutions
• Extensive knowledge of rail network operations and safety requirements
Advantageous
• HR Driver's License
• Additional safety certifications or training relevant to rail operations
• Operator experience/ Tickets
