About the position

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated RIO TINTO Track Protection Officer (TPO) to join our team on a fixed-term, full-time basis. As a TPO, you will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of rail operations by implementing and monitoring track protection measures.

Your strong problem-solving and communication skills, combined with your ability to work both autonomously and within a team, will be crucial in maintaining operational efficiency and safety. Flexibility and a can-do attitude are essential, as this role requires working various rosters, including 1x 14/7, 1x 8/6 as well as some casual Adhoc Positions.

8:6 Roster to commence Mid June

2:1 Roster to commence July

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety of personnel working on or near rail tracks by implementing effective track protection measures.
  • Conduct thorough site assessments to identify potential hazards and ensure all safety protocols are in place.
  • Communicate effectively with train controllers, rail workers, and other stakeholders to coordinate track protection activities.
  • Monitor and enforce compliance with rail safety regulations and company policies.
  • Maintain detailed records of track protection activities, incidents, and any safety breaches.
  • Provide on-site supervision and guidance to work crews, ensuring all safety procedures are followed.
  • Respond promptly to any safety incidents or emergencies, taking appropriate action to mitigate risks.
  • Participate in safety audits, inspections, and reviews to continuously improve rail safety practices.

To be successful for this role, you must have:

  • M1 Rail supervised worker card (Rio Tinto)
  • Current Track Protection Officer (TPO) qualification, previously M4/M5 or ROPO (M4) quaification
  • Category-1 Rail Medical
  • Valid White Card
  • Current & Active Australian C-Class Drivers Licence
  • Sound understanding and high regard of health & safety obligations in accordance with legislation and client policies.
  • A high degree of communication, organizational and problem-solving skills..
  • Extensive knowledge of rail network operations and safety requirements
  • Ability to quicky assess situations, identify issues and implement effective solutions to maintain safety and operational efficiency
  • Positive attitude and flexibility to work various rosters (8:6 or 14/7)
